DHARAMSHALA, July 16: In a landmark moment for Tibetan representation in international football, Swiss midfielder Cheveyo Tsawa, a rising talent of Tibetan heritage, has signed for Belgian champions Club Brugge, marking one of the most significant milestones achieved by a footballer with Tibetan roots on the European stage.
The 19-year-old from FC Zürich has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at the 20-time Belgian champions until 2030. While neither Club Brugge nor FC Zürich disclosed the financial details of the transfer, Belgian media have reported the deal to be worth just over €6 million.
Tsawa began his football journey in the youth academies of FC St. Gallen 1879, FC Steinach, and FC Zürich, steadily progressing through the ranks to earn a place in Zürich’s senior squad. During the 2025–26 season, Tsawa made 36 first-team appearances, scoring two goals and registering two assists. His consistent performances also earned him recognition at the international level, representing Switzerland across multiple youth age groups, from the Under-16s to the Under-21s.
Widely regarded as one of Belgium’s most decorated football clubs, Club Brugge is a perennial contender for the domestic title and regular participant in the UEFA Champions League. The club has built a strong reputation for developing emerging talent and providing young players with a pathway to Europe’s elite competitions.
Tsawa’s arrival places him in one of the continent’s most competitive football environments, where he will have the opportunity to refine his game at the highest level.
