Six new cases, One death among Tibetans in exile: CTA Covid-19 task force

DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 21: The Central Tibetan Administration’s Covid-19 task force in their weekly briefing on Thursday announced that there were six new cases of Covid-19 and one death among Tibetans in the exile community.

Six new cases of the virus were found this week; 1 from Ladakh, 2 from Delhi and 3 from Mundgod Tibetan settlement.

Among the three in Mundgod, a 67-year-old female has unfortunately succumbed to the disease. Mundgod’s Doeguling Tibetan settlement, one of the most concentrated settlement of Tibetan refugees is situated in one of the worst hit states in India- Karnataka where there are 2.40 lakh cases and 4,201 deaths.

The district of Uttara Kannada where Doeguling is situated has 3,766 cases so far, with 867 active cases and 38 fatalities, according to bing.com’s Covid-19 tracker.

The exile community in India and Nepal have so far registered 94 cases, out of which 68 have recovered, 23 active cases and 3 deaths, the CTA Covid-19 task force spokesperson said on August 20.

As of Thursday, there are 493 Tibetans quarantined, 253 in home quarantine and 240 in CTA organised institutional quarantine faculties.

India has become the country with third most cases of the virus with the tally passing the 29 lakh mark on Friday, adding close to 68,000 new cases in a single day, according to the Indian health ministry.
