Death with two-year reprieve for Tibetan accused of inciting self-immolations

China announces a slew of dams on Brahmaputra and Salween

India today said it will take a “considered view” on reports of China’s plans to construct upstream dams on the Brahmaputra River, while conceding that New Delhi is yet to get details on the latest plans. “We will take a considered view about that,” Defence Minister AK Antony said while adding that the government was yet to get details of China’s plan.

China appoints new governor for Tibet

Beijing has appointed yet another hardliner Tibetan as the new governor of central Tibet, a move many believe augurs with China’s plans of maintaining its iron fisted rule over the region. 55-year-old Losang Gyaltsen’s name was announced on Tuesday at the end of the 10th annual meeting of the so-called Tibet Autonomous Region’s rubber stamp regional assembly.
