DHARAMSHALA, May 25: An eight-year-old Tibetan footballer has signed with Premier League club Fulham F.C., marking a significant milestone for Tibetan representation in international sport and youth football.
Young defender Tenzin Hannah officially joined the west London club’s youth academy on May 7 at the iconic Craven Cottage, becoming one of the few Tibetans to enter the academy system of a top English football club.
He began his football journey with grassroots side Forestdale FC, where his talent was identified at an early age. He also trained under Chelsea F.C. before securing his move to Fulham’s academy, regarded as one of the most competitive football development structures in England.
Sharing the news on social media through an account managed by his parents, the young footballer expressed gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged those who had supported his journey. “So proud to sign for Fulham FC. Thank you God for blessing me with this opportunity,” he wrote.
“Big thank you to everyone at Forestdale FC for helping me and supporting me on my journey so far, and thank you to all the Fulham coaches for believing in me. Ready to keep working hard and enjoying every step of the journey.”
The Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA), the apex Tibetan sports body in exile, also congratulated the youngster, describing the signing as a proud and inspiring achievement for Tibetans around the world. In a statement shared online, the association said Tenzin’s journey from grassroots football to standing inside Craven Cottage wearing a Fulham shirt with his name on the back symbolised “only the beginning” of a promising future in the sport.
“Congratulations, Tenzin! May this journey be filled with growth, discipline, humility, and success on and off the pitch. The future looks bright for the Class of 2026 defender,” the association stated.
Tenzin Hannah’s signing has drawn admiration across Tibetan communities in exile, with many viewing the achievement as a rare and encouraging moment of visibility for young Tibetans in international football.
