Tibetan Telefilm ‘Om Mani’ Kicks off Shoot in Sikkim

The inaugural function of the shooting of Tibetan cultural telefilm, “Om Mani!”, was held in Sikkim on 25th December 2008. The telefilm is being produced by Lodor Productions; a Gangtok based Tibetan Film Company.

Mr. Lobsang Dorjee, Director & Producer of the film, while introducing the theme of the film, said, “the aim of the telefilm titled is to educate the Tibetan people about the significance of observing Tibetan Buddhist festivals and religious offerings”. “Although we commemorate several festivals and also do religious offerings like prostrations, but many of us do not know the history, significance, and purpose of doing so” he said. He said that though the film has serious subject and purpose, but it is intended to have high entertainment value as well.

Mr. Sherab Tharchin, Member, Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, was the Chief Guest at the ceremony. He released the script of the film. Mr. Tharchin lauded the initiative of Mr. Lobsang Dorjee. He spoke on the rich Tibetan civilization and it’s culture and the need to preserve and promote through such creative and effective medium.

The function was attended by several dignitaries, artistes and local leaders of the Kunphenling Tibetan Settlement, Ravangla, in Sikkim.

The film is slated for release in mid 2009 in Dharamsala.
