Milan, Feb.26 – The Tibetan community of Italy yesterday observed a candle light vigil near the duomo of northern city of Milan on the occasion of the Tibetan New Year. This candle light vigil was in held to express solidarity with the Tibetans inside Tibet.
Around 150 Tibetans and supporters took part in the vigil that paid tribute to those killed since March 14 last year. Prayers were said for victims of China’s military clampdown last year.
The message of H.H the Dalai Lama to the Tibetans on occasion of Tibetan new year was read out at the gathering. Candles were lit in front of the pictures of the Tibetans killed during last year’s revolt.
Vice president of TSG Italy-Tibet association Fausto Sparacino and a representative of the radical party expressed their solidarity with the Tibetan people’s struggle for freedom.
In a press release, the president of the Tibetan community of Italy , Mr. Thupten Tenzin, said “the Tibetan community of Italy renounces this year’s Tibetan new year celebrations, there is nothing to celebrate when Tibetans in Tibet are living under immense repression and terror. We mourn the sufferings of our brothers and sisters in Tibet.”
