New York April 25 – Tibetans and supporters gathered at the United Nations today to participate in a birthday that is not celebrated but observed with sadness since 1995 when the Panchen Lama recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama was abducted by China.
Panchen Lama turns twenty today but it is not known where is he being held and China never divulge any information about the young Tibetan Lama or his health conditions. Ngawang Tashi made his first address as the newly elected president of 10th Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York and New Jersey.
Tibetans and supporters shouted slogans demanding the release of the Panchen Lama and human rights, freedom and equality for Tibetans in front of the United Nations.
Around 200 protesters walked from the United Nations plaza towards the Chinese Consulate. The gathering sang the Tibetan National Anthem and the Tibetan uprising song to conclude the event.
