Tibetan Youth Congress of New York and New Jersey organized the semi final and the final matches of Pawo Thupten Ngodup Basketball tournament on August 24th. There were sixteen teams but only 14 played as two withdrew from the tournament.

The Dalai Lama might return to Tibet but only as a Chinese citizen and he must renounce all notions of Tibetan independence so that negotiations with Beijing could progress, Tibet's new Governor said.

The Dalai Lama said talks with China over greater autonomy for Tibet must yield results in the next two or three years, or he could no longer justify his conciliatory approach to youths clamouring for independence.
