Clutching prayer beads and waving Tibetan flags, approximately 25 Bay Area Tibetans and supporters gathered for a hunger strike in Berkeley Saturday morning joining similar hunger strikers in New York.

The Dalai Lama was one of three Nobel Peace Laureates given honourary doctorates on Monday at the University of British Columbia. The Dalai Lama, South African Bishop Desmond Tutu and Iranian human rights activist and feminist Shirin Ebadi all received the honours.

The Peace Ride for Tibet’s Independence has been progressing quite well since its inception last Saturday. At this point, the riders have completed about 200 miles, with 400 miles left to go. They will finish the bike ride next Saturday.
