CHENNAI — More than 68 students from 18 different places in India, Nepal and US participated in the Fourth Tibetan College Students’ Conference at World University Service Center here. The main theme of the Conference was ‘Self-Realization and Self-Responsibility’. The four – day Conference from January 15 to 18 covered various topics ranging from ‘Education and Specialization’ to ‘Tibetan and International Politics’.
The 17th Gyalwang Karmapa blessed the Inaugural Ceremony of the Conference with a video taped message expressing his greetings and earnest hope to take part in future versions of the conference.
Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdong Rinpoche also blessed the Conference by expressing his words of appreciation and encouragement through a video-message. He told, “Youth of today are very important. The future of Tibet depends upon you the younger generation. Tibetan youths in Tibet are under the oppression of Chinese government. So, what kind future Tibet will have depends upon the Tibetan youths who are in exile. You have got very good opportunity to study due to the kind leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I really appreciate that you have been able to hold such conference every year. It will certainly be productive, if you can convene such Conference in future as well. I hope this will benefit to all the Tibetan youths everywhere”.
Dr. Lobsang Sangay, a Harward Law graduate, delivered the inaugural speech as the Chief Guest. Among the other dignitaries, social worker Aunty Asha Reddy and former TYC Vice President Lobsang Yeshi joined as resource persons at the conference.
Dr. Lobsang Sangay launched the new official website of the Conference www.tcsc.net in and Lobsang Yeshi released the career guidance book titled Tomorrow.
Dr. Lobsang Sangay advised, “Everyone must have faith and confidence in his or her ability. One should never be afraid of mistake or failure. Take mistake and failure as lesson to improve yourself in future. Never step back. Never stop until you reach your goal”.
All the participants had panel discussion on the election of upcoming Kalon Tripa (PM) and Chitue (MPs). A documentary film ‘I want to be a Kalon Tripa’ was also screened.
Dr. Lobsang Sangay emphasized the need for education among the Tibetan youth.
The Tibetan students pledged to participate in the upcoming election of Kalon Tripa and Tibetan parliament. The participants of the conference also vowed to create political awareness among the Tibetan school children through various activities.
The participants elected Lobsang Lungtok from Men-Tsee-Khang, Dharamsala, as the Chief Coordinator for the next Conference to be held at the College for Higher Tibetan Studies.
