DHARAMSHALA, Sept. 27: Gonmo Kyi, sister of imprisoned Tibetan businessman Dorjee Tashi, detailed her ongoing struggle for justice and the brutal treatment she has faced at the hands of Chinese authorities in a video released on September 24.
Gonmo Kyi has been persistently protesting in front of Lhasa courts, demanding a retrial for her brother who is serving a life sentence on contested charges of alleged loan fraud. Her peaceful demonstrations have been met with repeated detentions and beatings by Public Security Bureau (PSB) officers, severely impacting her health.
In the latest video obtained by Tibet Watch, Gonmo Kyi stated, “I have petitioned the Lhasa Court to retry Dorjee Tashi’s case in accordance with the law of the State, but they have refused to address it. The Public Security Bureau repeatedly detained me, dragged me, and beat me. So, presently, I’m in ill health, afflicted by these repeated beatings.” She further stated, ”I will continue to protest and petition unless and until the Lhasa Court addresses this appeal.”
On July 27, the Court of Chengguan District in Lhasa dismissed Gonmo Kyi’s appeal against her treatment by PSB officials. Court documents obtained by Tibet Watch reveal that authorities justified their actions by claiming Gonmo Kyi’s protests “constitute breaking of the social rules and laws of the state.”
Gonmo Kyi was severely beaten in April by the Chinese authorities and denied hospital treatments , one of several instances of ill-treatment or threats. In December 2023, she was held in detention for eight days.
Dorjee Tashi, a former hotelier and philanthropist, was arrested in 2008 and later sentenced to life imprisonment on loan fraud charges, which his family vehemently contests. Reports suggest he was subjected to torture and detention in 2010. Since 2019, family members have been denied in-person visits.
International human rights organizations have raised concerns about Dorjee Tashi’s case, noting that while China’s constitution includes provisions for the rule of law, the Chinese Communist Party has been accused of interfering in legal cases under the pretext of national security and social stability. These organizations have called on the Chinese government to implement international human rights treaties, ensure fair trials, end forced confessions, and release Tibetans detained for peacefully advocating for their rights.

It is so tragic for poor Gonpo Kyid to be beaten, imprisoned, harassed and humiliated by the evil CCP regime! No matter what she does she will not get justice because there is no justice in communist China and occupied Tibet! There is no rule of law. The laws are made by the CCP officials according to their vested interests. Forget the Tibetans getting justice, even the Chinese including police are appearing on social media to get justice for themselves. The communist elites are above the law and can do what they like. Even the police cannot touch them. An interesting development that took place somewhere in China is the case of an ex-PLA man and a 30 year old woman. She was driving the wrong way and she had to swerve in order dodge the PLA man driven car on the right track! . She flew in a rage and punched the ex-PLA man repeatedly until he was bloodied! The reason why she was so haughty and arrogant was she happens to be the concubine of a big shot in high places. In communist China, you have power according to the backers you have who are placed in high offices. If you are a CCP high ranking official, you are protected by the CCP and NOBODY CAN TOUCH YOU! NOT EVEN THE POLICE!
The concubines lover sent another ex-police officer to calm down his concubine and lead her away from the place where it all happened. Meanwhile, the ex-PLA man took all the beating but kept filming all her thuggery! He got no apology for the wrongful beating making him bloodied from mouth and nose from the highly charged concubine. She was clearly in the wrong since she was driving the wrong way! So, the ex-PLA man put the ruckus on his Weibo account, equivalent of X and told his side of the story. There are thousands of ex-PLA men who have been discharged but having lot of grievances against the CCP for unpaid wages, pensions and many short comings of the regime. When they saw their comrade beaten up by a woman and bloodied and yet refused any apology let alone compensation even though she was in the wrong, they hired buses and went to demand justice for their victim comrade. They hired twenty buses and wore their army uniform and demanded justice. The CCP is very scared of retired soldiers especially organised ones that they immediately made amends to deal with the dangerous situation where men who are trained to fight are up in arms!
Thats why, ordinary people including police are seeking justice on social media and not in the Chinese courts! The courts are malleable and even the judges can be bought! That is why it is known through out the world that communist China’s legal system has NO JUDICIAL INDEPENDENCE. THE COURTS DO NOT HAVE AUTHORITY BEYOND WHAT IS GRANTED TO THEM BY THE NATIONAL PEOPLE’S CONGRESS (the rubber stamp parliament) UNDER A SYSTEM OF UNIFIED POWER. So, the CCP has effective control over the court system and its personnel. All the punishments are meted in accordance with the interest of the party and not through jurisprudence. Any official misconduct that would in any way disparage the party’s image will be not even taken into account. We saw this with the ex-Vice Premier of China, Zhang Gaoli who was accused by Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai of raping her after inviting to his house for dinner. However, she was later forced to retract her accusation against Zhang Gaoli and not only the CCP did nothing to punish the culprit but instead Peng Shuai disappeared for good from travelling abroad to continue her tennis carrier! This is the CCP’s justice system where criminals are not culpable for justice and get away with their crime if it has the potential to tarnish the image of the CCP. If ordinary people talk about such injustices, they are arrested and imprisoned for alleged “picking quarrels and provoking trouble” or for “disturbing public order”. So, everybody has to shut up and pocket any injustice that is meted to them by the corrupt, immoral and greedy officials who thrive on fleecing the people including having multiple concubines and salacious sexual escapades. Recently there was a woman called “beautiful Governor” named Zhong Yang who was having sex with 58 men!!! Now imagine, if a CCP female official sleeps with 58 men, you have to wonder how many women the male CCP officials sleep with!!!
It goes to show the indulgence of the officials without any consequences because they are protected by their station. Gonpo Kyid will not get justice in such an environment of injustice where Chinese people are themselves denied justice. The CCP perceives her brother’s work for the protection of the environment as a threat for the CCP’s rampant mining projects and exploitation of Tibet’s rich resources, that is causing an ecological disaster where the prima frost is melting faster than at any time in Tibet’s history and lakes are converging upon each other! That is why in order to silence him, they will keep him in prison as long as it takes so they can do what they like in occupied Tibet!
