DHARAMSHALA, Sept. 2: The President of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), also known as the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, Dr. Lobsang Sangay warned the Tibetan public against divisive Chinese elements in the 2021 general elections.

“Both the United States and Taiwan government have said on record that China has deliberately interfered and caused disruptions in their elections. If such independent nations are troubled by Chinese influences, the small Tibetan community must be especially vigilant and careful during our elections,” Dr. Sangay said during an official function of the 60th Tibetan Democracy day on Wednesday here.

He urged the Tibetan public for their active participation in the 2021 general elections and remarked that exercising the voting right to elect both Sikyong (Presidential) and Chitues (MPs) elections would strengthen the Tibetan democracy.

The President also said that the public must be careful of divisive forces within the Tibetan community on the basis of regional and sectarian differences, “Our freedom comes with great responsibilities, and we urge responsible participation, especially on social media and that we remain united and vigilant against those who seek to incite disharmony.”

Speaker Pema Jungney also addressed the event by noting the importance of democracy in the community, “Even under the enormity of the tangles of hardship in living conditions that the situation in exile entailed in the early years, His Holiness made it a point to immediately resume his efforts to carry out the visions he previously had to direct the political system of the Tibetan people to the path of democracy.”

The Tibetan general election of 2021 will elect a new Sikyong (President), the head of the exile Tibetan polity as well as the members of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile.

  1. It’s important the Election Commission clarify how many candidates can run for final election before the primary election. It should not be an arbitrary decision. Candidates should not be excluded simply because they don’t support the Middle Way Approach.

  2. The department of news plays a very important role and they have huge responsibility also by knowing how the media can shift the wind Of the Tibetan people in this coming election , they should be transparent , unbiased and accuracy on every word they release in the news moreover if the people who are involved in this game they should really think about that every action has its equal and opposite reaction
