New York, April 18, 2009: The students and fellow human rights activists from Amnesty International (AI) protested against China’s “extreme repression” in Tibet as part of Amnesty’s Get on the Bus for Human Rights Day.
The protest in front of the Chinese Mission in New York city was held between 4:00PM and 5:00PM yesterday. There were about 800 strong young activists from across the state of MA calling for the immediate release of ‘’Leaving Fear Behind’ filmmaker, Dhondup Wangchen, and his friend and cameraman, Golok Jigme, who was released in October 2008 and re-arrested in March 2009. Amnesty International was also joined by SFT, local Tibetans from RTYC, Tibetan Community and RTWA.
Get on the Bus for Human Rights (GOTB) is an annual day of human rights education and activism organized by Amnesty International USA Group 133 of Somerville, MA and a dedicated team of volunteer community organizers. Now in its fourteenth year, GOTB draws upwards of 1,200 participants riding buses, commuter trains, and carpooling down to New York City to take peaceful action in front of embassies, consulates and corporate headquarters in NYC in support of human rights.
