DHARAMSHALA, Aug 30: China on Monday once again asserted its territorial claim over the entire Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin region by incorporating the region on its 2023 official “standard map of China.” This move comes against the backdrop of a recent diplomatic agreement between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the 2023 BRICS Summit to de-escalate tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, situated at the Indo-Tibetan border.

The latest map released by the Ministry of Natural Resources comes months after Beijing in April unilaterally announced 11 “standardised geographical names” that include mountain peaks, rivers and residential areas in Arunachal Pradesh, a region it claims as part of Southern Tibet. New Delhi promptly rejected the move and said that the changed names will not have any direct impact on the places in Arunachal Pradesh. In response, New Delhi reiterated that renaming has been done in the past while making it clear that “Arunachal Pradesh is, has been and will always remain an integral and inseparable part of India.”

“This is not the first time China has made such an attempt. We reject this outright. Arunachal Pradesh is, has been and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. Attempts to assign names will not alter this reality,” Arindam Bagchi, the external affairs ministry spokesperson had said. Previously in 2017 and 2021, China’s Civil Affair Ministry had renamed other Indian locations triggering another political confrontation. New Delhi had then called out China’s expansionist plans.

The 2023 map, state media reported, was released during what is being called “National Mapping Awareness Publicity Week” in Deqing county, Zhejiang province.

Following the release of China’s “standard map” asserting territorial claims over Arunachal Pradesh, Congress Member of Parliament Manish Tewari on Tuesday raised concerns about hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping at the upcoming G20 Summit to be held in New Delhi next month. “The absurdity and preposterousness of the Chinese claim is evidenced by the history of the Sino-Indian border dispute. Today, the real issue between India and China is that they have transgressed along the Line of Actual Control at multiple points on a theatre level. Under those circumstances, the government should seriously introspect whether it would be in accordance with India’s self-respect to befitting a person in Delhi, Xi Jinping who is in illegal occupation of 2,000 square kilometres of Indian territory” the Congress leader stated.

Experts say that China’s move is a counterweight to India holding events in the lead-up to the G20 Summit in the state which Beijing had opposed. Xi Jinping is expected to attend the upcoming summit in New Delhi from September 9-10.

  1. Just as the corina virus was incubated by communist China, the imperialistic virus also originated from China. The Mongols and Manchus conquered China and they were dispossessed for centuries. Instead of throwing the yoke of domination, they created a system where they would use foreign conquest as a means of laying claim to other nations which is a unique imperialistic habit of the Chinese. There is not a single nation who has not come under the influence of some other nation including China itself! To lay claim to the spoils of invaders is a trade mark of the gutless Chinese imperialists. These retrograde claims have no basis. In the case of Tibet, it was never occupied and ruled by the Mongols or Manchus. In fact since both were Buddhists, they looked to Tibet as the holy grail of spirituality and had great respect for the Lama rulers of Tibet. They have offered Seals of recognition in acknowledgement of their spiritual power and glorious reign like President Reagan was knighted by Queen Elizebeth in 1989. The Tibetan Lama ruler became the tutors to Mongol and Manchu rulers. THE TEACHER IS NOT SUBSERVIENT TO THE DESCIPLE BUT THE DISCIPLE IS SUBSERVIENT TO THE TEACHER! They have to prostrate (kowtow) in front of the teacher before they receive teachings. Godan Khan invited (ས་པཎ་ཀུན་དགའ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་)Sakya Pandita as his teacher and when he died Kublai Khan took the reign of power, his nephew (འགྲོ་མགོན་ཆོས་རྒྱལ་འཕགས་པ་)Drogon Choegyal Phakpa became his tutor. When Choegyal Phakpa gave the Hey Vajra initiation to Kublai Khan, as per the Buddhist protocol, he had to offer mandala in order to beseech the teacher to bequeath upon him the precious initiation. During this mandala offering in which Mount Meru, the four continents including the sun and moon are offered, Kublai offered Tibet to Drogon Choegyal Phakpa as part of the mandala offering. From that time on, Choegyal Phakpa, who belonged to the Sakya tradition became the ruler of Tibet! This created the reign of Lamas in Tibet for the first time. The Sakyapas ruled Tibet for about 105 years. Tibet never acknowledged Mongol sovereignty nor the Mongols ever envisaged such affront upon the nation of their Guru! In fact sovereignty is a modern political concept and it didn’t apply in those times. Tibet was firmly in the hands of Tibetans and owed no allegiance to the Mongols. Tibet never felt the need nor the Mongols expected such subordination from their own teacher! The spiritual kinship between Mongol rulers and Tibetan teacher made it a healthy relationship of unremitting friendship! THEREFORE COMMUNIST CHINA’S CLAIM OVER TIBET FROM 13th CENTURY HAS NO HISTORICAL TRUTH OR VALIDITY WHATSOEVER! IT’S TOTAL FABRICATION TO SUIT IT’S EVIL DESIGN AND INDULGING IN REVANCHISM. It’s no different from Saddam Hussain’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990 claiming, Kuwait was part of Iraq since 1913!!!
The British never recognised Chinese claims and recognised Tibet as a sovereign nation with treaty making powers. However, when the British left India, a vacuum was created in Asia and when communists came to power in China 1949, they started sabre rattling against Tibet. The Indians were weak, inexperienced and gullible. They were besotted by communist China and Nehru was an idealistic man. He fell victim to the mouthwatering Chinese communist rhetoric and threw all caution to the wind and accepted Chinese claims over Tibet. India thus became the greatest asset in legitimising Chinese colonial occupation of Tibet!
The Chinese first deceived the Indians and when they felt the need they stabbed them in back by invading India in 1962. The Indians were completely outfoxed and to this day, the Himalayan blunder of Pandit Nehru and Krishna Manon is haunting India. The BJP is equally guilty of the same feckless act when Atal Behari Bajpai bartered Tibet with Sikkim in 2003 when China recognised Indian sovereignty over Sikkim in return for India’s recognition of Tibet as “part of PRC”. Both India and communist China started their friendship as anti-imperialists but ended up being fervent imperialists themselves.
The Chinese imperialists have now come up with new maps claiming whole of Arunachal Pradesh, South China Sea and Taiwan which has provoked strong reaction from India, Vietnam, Phillipines, Malaysia and Taiwan. India is in an unenviable position. Arunachal Pradesh, or South Mon in Tibetan ལྷོ་མོན་ was ceded by Tibet to British India during the Simla Convention of 1913-14. However, it has already endorsed Chinese fabricated claims over Tibet so the basis which it acquired Arunachal Pradesh is slippery. If India recognises Tibet as an independent nation WITH TREATY MAKING POWERS as the British acknowledged in the clause of the convention, India has solid ground to claim Arunachal Pradesh legally without batting an eye lid. India sleep walked its way into the arms of the Chinese communists and now it finds itself in a bind! They are unwilling to support the historical truth of Tibet’s independence because of the Herculean errors they made concerning Tibet. Communist China is getting more aggressive by the day. The Indian leader’s have no appetite to the cries of the Tibetan people (Tibbet ka azaadi Bharat ka suraksha). Now, the only choice left for India is built military alliance with other like minded countries to bolster its military prowess to deter China from launching an attack just like America is doing to protect Taiwan by cobbling together like minded allies! Since, India has no moral strength to support Tibetan independence, India’s security in the north is perennially endangered!
