DHARAMSHALA, NOV. 2: His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama graced his presence on the inauguration ceremony of the 600th birth anniversary of Gyudchen Dorjechang Jetsun Kung Dhondu, the founder of Gyuto Tantric Monastery of Gelugpa sect. It was also the 600th death anniversary of Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelugpa tradition.

At a ceremony at the Gyuto monastery, located at Sidhbari on Sunday, His Holiness was presented a silver Dharma wheel along with a longevity vase adorned with an image of Buddha Amitayu by former members.

The inauguration also initiated the three-day conference of the said text where twelve participants from twelve monasteries across India will engage in the discussion. The conference was based on The Great Commentarial Text of Guhyasamaja Tantra which is one of the most important scriptures of Tantric Buddhism.

Ganden Tripa, Tai Situ Rinpoche, Ling Rinpoche, and other important religious figures were in attendance for the celebration. Sikyong Lobsang Sangay and other official dignitaries from the Kashag were also present at the ceremony.

This occasion was an important acknowledgement of an old Buddhist institution whereby its 600th anniversary values its texts and the teaching it embodies. The Tibetan leader urged the practitioners to continue the preservation of this sacred tradition in the future.
