DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 13: The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) announced that the electoral process for the 2026 Presidential and Tibetan Parliamentary elections will formally commence on October 1 with the appointment of two Additional Election Commissioners.

In a press release issued Tuesday, the CEC announced that, under Article 97 of the Charter of Tibetans-in-Exile and Chapter 2, Article 5, Clause 3 of the Election Rules, two Additional Election Commissioners are to be appointed for the duration of the election period, from the start of the process until the final results are declared. The oath-taking of these commissioners will take place on October 1, which will mark the official start of the election.

Following their appointment, the Chief Election Commissioner and the two Additional Commissioners will determine and release the detailed schedules for both the preliminary and main elections. They will also launch public outreach and awareness campaigns to inform the Tibetan community about the electoral process, following established practice from previous elections.

The CEC also urged the public to remain cautious about misinformation circulating regarding the 2026 elections and to rely on official announcements for accurate information.

The 2026 Tibetan general elections will see Tibetans from around the world cast votes to elect the Sikyong or the President of the Tibetan government in exile as well as members of the Tibetan parliament in exile.
