DHARAMSHALA, Jan. 2: Chinese President Xi Jinping has reiterated Beijing’s long-standing claim over Taiwan, declaring that the “reunification of our motherland” is “unstoppable,” while also confirming the start of construction of a major hydropower project on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River in Tibet, in his New Year message.
In the address delivered on December 31, Xi stressed the Chinese Communist Party’s commitment to the “One Country, Two Systems” framework and emphasised Beijing’s position on Taiwan, describing reunification as a historical inevitability. “We Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share a bond of blood and kinship,” Xi said, adding that national reunification is “a trend of the times” that cannot be reversed.
Xi’s remarks come amid heightened cross-strait tensions, with Taiwan continuing to reject Beijing’s sovereignty claims and international observers warning of growing military pressure from China. Analysts note that Xi’s use of emphatic language such as “unstoppable” signals Beijing’s intent to keep Taiwan firmly at the of its national agenda, even as resistance within Taiwan remains strong and geopolitical concerns intensify in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Chinese leader also highlighted what he described as major economic achievements, claiming that China’s economic output has “crossed thresholds one after another” and is expected to reach RMB 140 trillion yuan. According to Xi, China’s “economic strength, scientific and technological abilities, defense capabilities, and composite national strength” have all reached new heights, reinforcing the narrative of resilience and progress promoted by the Chinese state.
Significantly, Xi also announced that construction has begun on a large-scale hydropower project at the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, known downstream as the Brahmaputra. The project is located in Tibet’s Medog county, a seismically active and ecologically sensitive region near the border with India. The Yarlung Tsangpo is one of the world’s deepest river gorges and a lifeline for millions of people living downstream in India and Bangladesh. Analysts warn that large-scale hydropower construction in the area could have far-reaching ecological consequences, disrupt river flow patterns, and give China strategic leverage over downstream water resources.
Tibetan environmentalists and rights advocates have long raised alarm over the lack of transparency surrounding major infrastructure projects in Tibet, noting that local communities are rarely consulted and that environmental assessments are not made public. Some experts also point to the dam’s potential dual-use implications, arguing that control over the river could be used as a geopolitical tool in times of regional tension.
Critics say that Xi’s New Year message, while framed as a forward-looking address, thus reinforced several core pillars of Beijing’s current policy direction: an uncompromising stance on Taiwan, continued assertion of control over Tibet through large infrastructure projects, and a narrative of economic and national strength aimed at projecting stability and confidence both domestically and internationally.
The communist regime in China is a reckless thug that does things without proper thought and weighing up the consequences! Through out its blood soaked rule, it has made multiple mistakes that have brought immense heart-ache, death and destruction to millions! it pursued the disastrous “leap forward policy” which caused immense suffering of starvation to millions! It was launched in 1958, ostensibly to rapidly transform China’s agrarian economy into a modern industrialised communist society. It entailed mass collectivisation of agriculture into people’s communes and the establishment of “backyard furnaces” for steel production! It ended in monumental disaster and the death of 45 million people! Then the CCP launched the so called “Hundred Flowers Campaign” meant to encourage criticism and suggestions. It was meant to gather diverse opinions but the campaign took an unexpected turn which even challenged the CCP’s legitimacy. This led to another campaign known as “Anti-rightest campaign” targeting intellectuals, suppress dissent and punish those who had participated in the “Let hundred flowers bloom campaign”. The father of Ai wei wei, the Chinese dissident who happened to be an academic was banished to East Turkistan for years according to his biography! Many intellectuals were murdered by the CCP! Then came the “one child policy” which was so harsh that any one who had two children had to either pay an astronomical fine or their child was confiscated by the police. The corrupt police sold them in the human trafficking market to enrich themselves leaving heart broken parents to rue for the rest of their lives! But millions hid them without the knowledge of authorities or bribed them with heavy bakshish! These children were known as “black children” because they were not recognised by the Chinese communist state. There were an estimated 20 million such children. These children had no rights, no ration cards, no healthcare, no education and no basic social services! Millions of women including Tibetans, Uyghurs and Mongols were forcibly sterilised against their will without anaesthesia! This caused terrible pain and complications to the women victims but the CCP is a brutal, so it couldn’t care less! It showed no concern for the plight of the victims! . The CCP terminated pregnancy even when the child was eight months old! As a result of such brutal and draconian policy, today the CCP is facing a catastrophic population decline! IN SHORT THE CCP HAS A LITANY OF POLICY FAILURES! Don’t forget how Xi the dictator locked the Chinese, Tibetan and other people of occupied territories FOR THREE LONG YEARS! That’s the real face of the CCP! The above failed policies have brought immense pain, trauma and loss to millions of families but the CCP never even gave a thought for such things. No apologies! No compensation! THE CCP IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR INCUBATING THE DEADLY WUHAN VIRUS WHICH KILLED MILLIONS ACROSS THE WORLD AND DESTROYED THE ECONOMY OF EVERY COUNTRY! IT’S IDEOLOGY IS ROOTED IN VIOLENCE AND EMPATHY IS ANATHEMA TO THE CCP! Its violent indoctrination of children let to children killing their own parents and teachers! Owing to these SHOCKING POLICY ERRORS THAT COST SO MANY HUMAN LIVES, IT IS PERTINENT THAT THE RECKLESS AND IRRESPONSIBLE REGIME IN BEIJING STOP FORTH WITH THE YARLUNG TSANGPO DAM ACROSS THE BRAHMAPUTRA! AS THE CHIEF MINISTER OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH, HONOURABLE PEMA KHANDU HAS WARNED MONTHS AGO, THE PROSPECT OF OVERFLOWING OWING TO EXCESSIVE RAIN IS A REAL DANGER THAT IS ALREADY HAPPENING IN THE CHINESE CAPITAL WITH BEIJING INUNDATED BY WATER RELEASED FROM DAMS WITHOUT WARNING!!! Some thirty people have lost their lives but reports from the ground tell a different story. The CCP is not allowing citizens to take photos of the devastation and the casualties to save itself from embarrassment! There is no assistance from the state as the flood ravages homes, cars and people’s lives! If the Yarlung Tsangpo dam is built, the colossal nature of the dam means there will be colossal devastation in the down stream countries IN THE EVENT OF OVERFLOWING! BESIDES, AS THE HONGQI BRIDGE IN SICHUAN PROVINCE WHICH FELL JUST MONTHS AFTER IT WAS BUILT CLEARLY DEMONSTRATE THE SHODDY WORK OF CHINESE CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES. SUCH A MONUMENTAL TASK OF A DAM LARGER THAN THE THREE GORGE’S DAM IS A CATASTROPHIC DANGER TO THE ECOLOGY OF OCCUPIED TIBET AND A UNIMAGINABLE DISASTER IF IT OVER FLOWS OR WORSE SUFFER DAMAGE AS OFTEN HAPPENED IN MANY CHINESE DAMS! IT WILL ALSO SEVERELY REDUCE THE FLOW OF WATER TO THE RIPARIAN COUNTRIES WHICH ARE DEPENDENT ON THE WATERS OF YARLUNG TSANGPO RIVER! WATER MUST BE SHARED AND NOT MONOPOLISED! IT IS A NATURAL RESOURCE HUMAN BEINGS CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT! The Chinese communists have made multiple mistakes that have resulted in the death of 80 million people under its watch! Never before has there been a regime that has caused so much pain, misery and death like the Chinese communist regime! Owing to its disastrous one child policy, there is a marked demographic decline in its population. It boats of 1.4 billion but in reality, the real current population of the PRC is only about eight hundred million! That is why, it has imposed tax on contraceptives!!! SINCE SUCH A MONUMENTAL DAM PROJECT IS A DIRECT THREAT TO INDIA, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF ITS LOCATION AT A HIGHLY UNSTABLE AND SEISMOLOGICALLY ACTIVE AREA, INDIA MUST CALL ON THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO FORCE THE CCP TO STOP THE MINDLESS AND RECKLESS DAM THAT WILL BE A TICKING BOMB FOR RIPARIAN COUNTRIES! IT’S LOCATION AT A SEISMICALLY SENSITIVE AREA IS A POINTER TO THE TERRIBLE RISK OF UNIMAGINABLE DISASTER IN THE EVENT OF EARTH QUAKES AND TREMORS! STOP THE MINDLESS MISADVENTURES OF THE CCP!!! THE CCP IS THE WORLD RECORD HOLDER OF MAN-MADE DISASTERS WHICH HAS KILLED 80 MILLION PEOPLE IN A SHORT SPAN OF 70 ODD YEARS! Imperialist Chinese communist regime is known for its deception and trickery. It is the only weapon that induces its unsuspecting victims to be duped. Tibet was duped by the the evil regime in 1951 when Tibet was forced to sign the so called “17 point treaty”. Tibet was promised not to change the existing political system and respect the leadership of the Dalai Lama. However, in reality, they reneged even before the ink dried on the paper! Likewise, Hong Kong was promised autonomy on the basis of “one country-two systems”. The fascist communist regime lost no time to undermine the freedom it promised for the people of Hong Kong. By 2019, there was full blown rebellion against the totalitarian regime by young Hong Kongers in the streets which came to be known as “umbrella movement” after the young protestors used umbrella to guard themselves from tear gas canisters! HONG KONG IS A POLICE STATE WHILE OCCUPIED TIBET IS A CONCENTRATION CAMP TODAY! The CCP is again dangling the same so called “one country-two systems” formula for Taiwan. The thing people need to know is the Chinese communists are very foolish and stupid bunch of thugs. Their ideology is to achieve their goals through violence and intimidation. But in order to deceive the victim they make gracious statements and sweet sounding words to hoodwink their victims. They don’t realise the victims capacity to avoid the danger of entrapment by seeing such deception practised upon the Tibetans and Hong Kongers. The Chinese communists don’t understand the psychology of its victims nor it tries to understand because for them that is irrelevant! In other words, how the Tibetans and Hong Kongers feel under such oppression is of no concern because for them human life has no value nor worth. The only thing that matters to them is to further the vested interest of the regime and not the wellbeing of the people. People are only tools for the aggrandisement of the regime and nothing else. That is why it was capable of killing 80 million of its own people under its watch! The Government of Taiwan and its people are not the least interested in so called “unification”! They have seen it with their own eyes what happened to Tibet and Hong Kong under the guise of “returning to the family” as the 1951 Tibet-PRC treaty enumerates in its draft. As it were, there is not the slightest chance that the Taiwanese will believe in the CCP’s lie trotted as “one country-two systems”. Every Taiwanese with a brain of a mosquito would know that this is nothing but a trap and what happened to Tibet and Hong Kong will happen to them sooner or later! Tibet had no allies to speak of so Tibet had NO OTHER CHOICE THAN BEND ITS KNEES to the evil fascist Imperialist CCP regime’s dictates! But Taiwan is different in that it has a powerful ally in the US. Today, the US and communist China are ideologically opposed and are in a tussle for supremacy. The CCP dictator is in a bit of hurry it seems as he is aging and the centenary of the CCP is well neigh in front of him. So, he is using lot of bluster to cower the Taiwanese and also send a message to those who may support Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion. Xi is said to be averse to danger and is believed to be not a risk taker! At the same time, he sees an opportunity during the Trump era as Trump is an avid admirer of the Chinese dictator. He might be of the opinion that Trump values his friendship so much that he might actually not commit to defend Taiwan at the behest of Xi. Trump is happy to sell weapons by the billions but may be not really committed to shedding American blood for Taiwan. Trump has all the hall marks of a dictator and he doesn’t hide it. He loves the likes of Xi, Putin and Kim. He is much more comfortable with these odorous dictators than other world leaders except Natenyahu. Communist China was incensed by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s statement but after Japan stood firm, its childish act whimpered. Japan therefore seems determined to defend Taiwan and if Japan is attacked America has the treaty obligation to come to Japan’s aid! Once America is involved, Australia is most likely to join since the US is Australia’s most important security ally. With Australia, Japan and the US, the Phillipines will also enter the war since China is occupying large swath of Phillipines maritime domain illegally. This consortium of nations will be more than a challenge for the PLA. Therefore, much as the CCP may want to conquer Taiwan, this is looking more and more a stupendous challenge for a untested and inexperienced PLA which is mired in corruption. The CCP’s end game is to put maximum pressure on Taiwan so it cracks under constant Chinese pressure and agree for talks! Since it capitulated under pressure, the CCP has the upper hand to dictate the terms like it did to Tibet. Once, a deal is struck for “unification” in the name “one country-two systems”, it will flout all the pledges it made and Taiwan will end up like Tibet and Hong Kong in the end! Therefore, in order to avoid such devious trap by the CCP regime time and again, all democracies including India must help to defend Taiwan. When Tibet was invaded and illegally occupied, nobody imagined, it would happen to them. In six decades time, it’s happening to Taiwan, Phillipines and it will happen to India on Arunachal Pradesh. Imperialist communist China has no borders!!! It is an imperialist and expansionist entity and it will conquer every territory it can by hook or crook! IF THE CCP WANTS “UNIFICATION” WITHOUT SHEDDING CHINESE BLOOD AS XI SEEMS TO PEDDLE WITH “SHARED BLOOD”RHETORIC, THERE HAS TO BE REGIME CHANGE IN COMMUNIST CHINA!
