DHARAMSHALA, Dec. 4: He Moubao, the Secretary of the Kanlho (Gannan) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Party Committee, has renewed calls for the systematic “sinicization” of Tibetan Buddhism during an inspection tour across the prefecture, including a prominent stop at Labrang Monastery, one of the most influential monastic institutions in the region. According to a report by the Washington-based International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), the visit on November 14 emphasised Beijing’s escalating ideological campaigns targeting Tibetan religious life.
ICT noted that He’s directives are closely aligned with policies adopted at the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), held from October 20 to 23, 2025. He instructed prefectural and county-level cadres to “fully implement the Party’s strategy for governing Tibet in the new era,” emphasizing absolute political loyalty, unwavering gratitude to the CCP, and deeper assimilation of Tibetan society into the overarching Chinese national identity.
During the tour, He convened a large gathering at Labrang Monastery, summoning senior prefectural leaders, township officials, and the heads of major monasteries and nunneries in Sangchu (Xiahe) County. This included representatives from Terlung, Drakar, Lhachab, and Geyphel monasteries, as well as Gyogya and Sayue nunneries and the local tantric college.The rare large-scale assembly highlighted the political significance of the visit and the growing scrutiny being placed on monastic institutions.
He Moubao reiterated that the Fourth Plenary Session had “drawn a grand blueprint for the next five years,” centered on further consolidating state authority and expanding the influence of Chinese culture across all ethnic regions. Citing the session’s priorities, he emphasized two directives central to Beijing’s campaign in Tibetan areas: to forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, and “adhere to the sinicization of religion in China and strengthen law-based governance of religious affairs.”
A key component of the campaign involves reshaping the mindset, practices, and conduct of monks, nuns, and lay believers. He demanded heightened efforts to cultivate patriotism within the monastic community and to align their worldview with state doctrines. These include intensified political education campaigns such as “Thank the Party, Strive for the New Era,” which aim to reinforce “national consciousness, civic consciousness, and rule-of-law awareness” among monastics. Monks and nuns are also required to participate in indoctrination initiatives branded as “Study Laws and Regulations, Abide by Precepts, and Build a Positive Image.”
He further insisted that monastics must uphold the Party’s prescribed “Five Identities” — identification with the Chinese motherland, the Chinese nation, Chinese culture, the Communist Party, and socialism with Chinese characteristics. Monks were explicitly called upon to engage in “righteous belief and righteous action” by strictly adhering to state-mandated religious, ethnic, and social policies.
ICT’s report highlighted that the visit is part of a broader, ongoing policy drive by Beijing to reshape Tibetan Buddhism under state control, reduce the influence of traditional religious authorities, and embed loyalty to the CCP within the core of religious life.
The Chinese communists have attacked Tibetan Buddhism right from the beginning of their invasion and occupation!They dismantled every monastery, chapel, temple, stupas, millions of statues and Buddhist thankas. Sacred mani pillars were dismantled and used as stepping stones to toilets! Holy Buddhist scripts were made into bon fires! The Tibetans called them the enemy of the faith བསྟན་དགྲ་རྒྱ་དམར་ The Tibetan resistance grew out of the notion that the Chinese communists are not only invading and occupying our country but they are hell bent to destroy the most sacred Buddha Dharma which is the life blood of the Tibetan people! Monks and nuns were forced to marry and thousands were murdered! In order to humiliate Tibetans and their belief, they forced monks and nuns to fornicate in public! The Panchen Lama was forced to eat human faeces! They saw Tibetan Buddhism and its institutions as symbols of feudalism so they went on a rampage to destroy everything in their frenzy of communist bigotry!
After seven decades of repression and total dismantling of Tibetan Buddhist infrastructure and man power, it is now striking the last nail in the coffin of Tibetan Buddhism by so called Sinicizing Buddhism. It is in fact a euphemism for total elimination! The CCP sees Tibetan Buddhism as the backbone of Tibetan resistance to Chinese occupation and colonial ambitions. What sets the Chinese and Tibetans apart are the ideology of hate embraced by the Chinese communists and the Tibetan Buddhist belief in non-violence and ahimsa. The Chinese communist ideology has resulted in the murder of 80 million people under the CCP’s watch! It is the most violent and killer regime the world has ever known. The CCP has no sense of care for the Tibetan people! They see Tibetans as subhumans just like the Israeli extremists look at the Palestinians. The ultimate goal of communist China towards Tibetans is same as that of the Israelis towards the Palestinians. Just like Israeli leaders goal is to exterminate the Palestinians in order to get ownership of their land, the Chinese communist extremists hold the same ambition to exterminate the Tibetans so, they can get ownership of Tibet!!! What does Sinicize Buddhism mean? The Lord Buddha’s teaching cannot be watered down to suit communist China’s political agenda! It is not even necessary for communist state to destroy Buddhism. Laos is a communist state but didn’t destroy its Buddhist religion or monasteries and kill their monks! Vietnam is a communist state which didn’t kill its monks and destroy their monasteries either. But communist China has been waging a war on Tibetan Buddhism and systematically destroyed Tibets more than 6000 monasteries! Why? IT’S SIMPLY BECAUSE COMMUNIST CHINA IS AN ALIEN INVADER AND OCCUPIER OF TIBET! JUST LIKE THE BRITISH AND FRENCH ARE SAID TO HAVE DESTROYED THE CHINESE CAPITAL DURING WESTERN DOMINATION OF CHINA, THE ALIEN CHINESE INVADER IS DOING THE SAME IN OCCUPIED TIBET! THE BRITISH AND FRENCH HAD NO LOVE FOR CHINA SO THEY DESTROYED THEM. THE CHINESE COMMUNISTS HAVE NO LOVE LOST FOR TIBET. SO THEY ARE DESTROYING EVERYTHING THAT IS HELD SACRED BY THE TIBETANS! THIS IS CHINESE CHAUVINISM AND IMPERIALISM WRAPPED INTO ONE TO BLUDGEON TIBET AND ITS LIFE-BLOOD!!! N
