DHARAMSHALA, December 9: The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Wednesday began a five-day teaching at Gyumed Monastery in Hunsur Tibetan Settlement where over 15,000 devotees have converged. Also present were His Eminence Gaden Tripa and Sakya Trizin.
The Tibetan leader today gave preliminary teachings on Tsongkhapa’s In Praise of Dependent Origination (Tendrel Toepa) and Destiny Fulfilled (Tokjoe Dunlekma) & 7th Dalai Lama’s Four Mindfulnesses on the Middle Way View (Tatri Denpa Shiden).
“For those who can’t receive the initiations or ‘wang’, there is nothing I can do to help the situation. However, those who can understand should have some determination in understanding it in depth and should not take it as just another teaching to feel fortunate about,” His Holiness said.
The Nobel Peace Laureate said one should cultivate warm heartedness towards all sentient beings who crave happiness and despise sorrow.
“Irrespective of religious beliefs or next life, I personally feel that it is necessary to be a kind and warmhearted person. So I urge everyone gathered here to inculcate and practice it as much. It is worthwhile, even if you manage to benefit a single person.”
He also emphasized the importance of conservation of the Tibetan Language, which he said is the only language in the world capable of interpreting the teachings of the Buddha most accurately and clearly. “Even the modern scientists, especially in study of mind, are showing lots of interest, which proves its importance.”
The 80-year old Tibetan spiritual leader will confer Guhyasamaja Initiation (Sangwang Dupa) tomorrow.
Sources also indicate that Indian ministers will be joining Tibetan leader Thursday in Hunsur for the celebration of the 26th anniversary of his receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
