Central Tibetan Administration mourns passing away of Minling Trichen

Dharamsala, February 13: The Central Tibetan Administration on Tuesday mourned the demise of Kyabje Minling Trichen Rinpoche, head of Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, by offering prayers.

Kyabje Minling Trichen Rinpoche was 78 when passed away on February 9 at Mindrolling Monastery. As a mark of respect, the departments and offices of the Administration remained closed on Tuesday, following an hour-long prayer session in the morning.

Senior officials of the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA), including Chief Justice Commissioner, Kalon Tripa and members of Kashag, and monks from Nechung Monaster,y and CTA staff members attended the prayer session in Gangchen Kyishong to offer prayers of condolence to Kyabje Minling Trichen Rinpoche.

According to the office of the Mindrolling Monastery, the general public may offer respects to Kyabje Minling Trichen Rinpoche’s Kudung beginning from February 16 (10th day of the 1st lunar month) after the Kudung will be ceremonially conducted to the shrine room earlier at 9:30 in the morning. “The general public may offer their respects and supplicate Kyabje Rinpoche to ceaselessly nurture and guide us in this and all future life times,” the monastery’s office told Phayul.com.

The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, in a condolence message, said: “The members of the Tibetan parliament are deeply saddened by the demise of Kyabje Trichen Gyurme Kunzang Wangyal, the ornament of Nyingma tradition, who has greatly excelled in the learning, understanding and practice of Buddhist teachings.”

“The greatest accomplishment of Kyabje Minling Trichen Rinpoche has been his efforts in the propagation of Ngingma tradition – at the seat of its learning – Mindrolling monastery, which has become the centre of faith for all beings of the world,” the message notes.

“As the head of Nyingma tradition, Kyabje Minling Trichen Rinpoche has shown an unwavering faith in His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which is a matter of great honour.”

The message further notes: “The demise of Kyabje Minling Trichen Rinpoche is a huge loss to the lineage of Nyingma in general, and all Buddhist devotees of the world in particular.”

Sakya Gongma Rinpoche, head of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism presided over the 3rd day ritual on Tuesday and led the kha-chö drubchö or the Vajrayogini sadhana. Deputy Speaker Dolma Gyari and Ven Thubten Phelgye, Member of Parliament, also attended the prayer ceremony.

Kyabje Minling Trichen Rinpoche is revered and respected throughout the Buddhist world as a great Mahasiddha and one of the great accomplished masters of this century.
