Dharamshala October 7- Today, an ominously low turnout of public was witnessed here at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts where the 36th founding anniversary of the Tibetan Youth Congress was being commemorated.

Not so many years ago, ‘Youth Day’ or the founding anniversary of the largest Tibetan non governmental organization used to be a gala event attended by officials and ministers from the exile Tibetan government, representatives of non governmental organizations and the public, lending it a national significance. Since few years the founding day of this frontrunner organization of the Tibetan freedom struggle faded into a mere anniversary coupled with a few basketball matches making it not more than a sports event.

A modest function here at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts’ courtyard was attended by former executive members of the organization, representatives of various non-governmental organizations, institutions etc. The statement of the Central Executive of the Tibetan Youth Congress was read by Ms. Pema Yangchen of the TYC. This was followed by the address of the regional Tibetan Youth Congress chapter.

Mr. Lhasang Tsering, a former president of the organization and one of the founding members of the organization was the chief guest on the occasion. Using his characteristic oratory, Mr. Lhasang Tsering urged the Tibetan public to be more responsible of their duties and responsibilities towards Tibetan cause.

At the time of this report going online, a women’s basketball match was being played between TIPA and Sarah Tibetan Institute.
