Jantar Mantar (New Delhi), October 2: Youth Liberation Front of Tibet, an Indian youth organisation supportive of the Tibetan cause, led a rally from Jantar Mantar to Parliament Street demanding boycott of Chinese made goods in India.
Members of Regional Tibetan woman association Majnukatilla and some 50 people from Majnukatilla Tibetan settlement joined the procession in show of solidarity to the ongoing Burmese people’s freedom movement.
The visibly peaceful rally was, however, barricaded at Jantar Mantar and was not allowed to proceed into the parliament street by the Delhi police even at the repeated insistence by the organisers.
Mr Narender Chaudhary, President of the organization in his speech requested the citizens of India and its government to boycott Chinese made goods. Mr Narendra spoke on how the international community is concerned about Chinese manufacturers not following the safety measures of the export goods.
The protesters later burned their T-shirts and other Chinese made goods and raised “Boycott Chinese goods”, “Free Tibet”, “Tibet’s Freedom is India security” slogans.
The organisation said they submitted a petition letter to the Prime Minister Office demanding the Indian government to cross check the Chinese goods crouching into the Indian market.
Another petition was sent to the Chinese embassy demanding improvement of human rights situation in Tibet and also to Free Tibet. The Youth Liberation Front of Tibet said they would continue to hold more such activities and demonstrations if the government of China does not respond to their demands.
