First-ever Tibetan laughter show launched

Delhi, July 27 : Tibet Motion Pictures & Arts, a filmmaking venture started by two trained exile Tibetan filmmakers, Tashi Wangchuk and Tsultrim Dorjee, launched its latest project, The Great Tibetan Laughter Show, at a ceremony in the community hall of Dekyiling Tibetan refugee settlement in northern India. Shooting for the show will take off in areas in and around the settlement.

The comedy show will be a monthly based program and will be distributed through DVDs and VCDs. Explaining the concept of the show, the directors said, “It would be a hilarious show with full of comic moments and social messages.”

The DVDs/VCDs of the new show and “Phun Anu Thanu” the duo’s first maiden feature film will hit the market on Sep. 2 coinciding with the Tibetan Democracy day. Another major project of the Tibet Motion Pictures & Arts is a feature film called “Richard Gere is My Hero” shooting for which will take place in Dharamsala soon.

Tibet Motion Pictures & Arts launched in Sep. 2005 produces Tibetan related feature films/documentaries in particular and the crossover films in general. The unit’s most recent work is Democracy in Exile; Tibet at Crossroads, a 28- min documentary film commissioned by India’s National TV Network, Doordarshan; Ford Foundation; and the New Delh–based Public Service Broadcast Trust.
