A Tibetan character named Choki will feature in Nickleodeon’s latest animated TV series set to premiere in North America in August. Shuriken School, produced by Xilam Animation and Zinkia Entertainment, follows a dozen kids as they train in the legendary art of Ninjitsu in the fictional town of Tokirohama. It is a unique comedy that merges eastern and western cultures into a school for one of the most respected martial arts, the Animation Insider reported July 27.

Choki is one of the several major characters in the series. With a voice-over by Nathan Kress, Choki is a ten-year-old orphan raised by Tibetan monks. The monks sent him to Shuriken school hoping he’d learn to shake off his perpetually sleepy state of mind. He has a few telepathic powers (he can levitate and move objects) which he seldom uses. He doesn’t like exercise, nor confrontations (both of which mean work). He’s always sleeping in class, though his classmates think he’s meditating.

Shuriken School will premiere on North American television on Nickelodeon on Sunday morning, on August 20 at 11:30am Eastern Time Zone. The first episode broadcast will be “Winning Ninja.” The second episode broadcast (August 27) will be “Catnap Burglar.”

Nickelodeon’s U.S. television network is seen in more than 90 million households and has been rated number one basic cable network for more than ten consecutive years.
