NEW YORK, April 1 – The Festival of Tibet, a showcase of Tibetan art, history and culture, opened March 30 at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York.

Scheduled to go on till April 6, the festival features Tibetan thangka paintings, prayers flags and a pictorial account of Tibet’s past history, its present plight as well as His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision for a future Tibet.

Other highlights include talks to introduce the country and its Buddhist culture, and the screening of Kundun, Martin Scorsese’s film on the early life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The festival is organized by the Department of Religious Studies and the Institute of International and Cross-Cultural Psychology, St. Francis College, in conjunction with Tibet Fund and the Office of Tibet, New York.

Incidentally, Ghen Sima-la from the TCV School in India is currently studying at St. Francis College, having been awarded full tuition-fee waiver last year. Sima-la will participate in the festival with a presentation of her story as a “Tibetan St. Francis student”.

This year again, St. Francis has decided to give full waiver to another Tibetan Fulbrighter.
