Readers' Comments on "The weariness of nothingness and being Tibetan by Tenzin Nyinjey"
That was the year when China’s emperor Deng Xiaoping proclaimed his infamous decree for Tibet—except independence anything can be discussed. That was the year, in other words, when we started giving up on our struggle for freedom....

Out of the many humorous graffiti on Indian vehicles, once I saw, 'I'm lost too, don't follow me'. Couldn't grasp the meaning till I read this piece of yours.

Tenzin Nyinje la, now yu're talking at long last. With whats going on in Tibet, the brutul crack down and news of further hardening of policy to assimiliate and eradicate everthing our way of life, I find nothing to be excited about. To those who are excited about the challenges i say.. good for you! our elders under His Holiness have gone through a lot and worked through trials and tribulations and now its the responsilitly of the young and excited to shoulder the responsibilty. Those of us who have witnessed some of the past and now the present and as we look to the future there is a sense of weariness. so i very much understand what the writer is talking about.

Subject: Enough of loud talk and cynical view
Jul 11 2012 02:47 PM

After going through your loud article, let me table couple of my opinion.

There is plenty to read on the events leading to that infamous year 1978. It was a long thaw and silence between the Tibetan and Chinese that finally culminated into Deng uttering those negotiation - without the talk of Independence. The event is also an off shoot of the political intrigues befalling the Chinese political corridor aftermath the Mao's death. It was not so cataclysmic as you made it sound to be.

It was a turning point, for better or worse, we will have to see in times to come.

Regarding Lama bashing, I am not sure whether you are referring to his holiness the Dalai Lama, when you said Lama Leaders. If it is, let me remind you that it is his holiness the fourteenth Dalai Lama who approached with folded hand then Indian leaders and global leaders to support and help us. It is with his grace that our parents were able to set up roof our head and had a bowl of soup. Not to mention the setting up of hundreds of schools and other cultural institute, that we have benefited from.

Regarding the last para, where you have mentioned the young tibetans are tired and worn down, I am really perplexed if you are imposing your idea or generalizing self opinion on others. I beg to differ from your opinion. The young exiled are ever more excited about the challenges being thrown at them. They are eager and ready to leave mark on anything that is being offered now.

Tibetan youngsters are excelling in education, have growing sense of nationalism, have greater reverence for his holiness the Dalai Lama and have the will and courage to represent Tibet on any given platform.

Your poetic narration of dancing angel and showering petal sounds more like a western cliche about Tibetan. It sounded like a desperate "wanna be writer" trying to impress readers with some hallucinated thought.

Take sometime off from those dingy writing table and smell Tibetan community from another perspective.

Things are really not that bad as you made it sound.

a concerned reader and friend.

Lama are not just 'may be happy dancing in the sky" they are meant to play the role they have been and shall continue their contribution. The rats following the piep piper have a choice not to dance in the sky. Then they have the nurve to blame the music of piep piper for their own wrong decision making.

Otherwise i am with you mr.beautiful.

Subject: WHICH CAME FIRST – cold practical decision or ‘white dove’ talk
Jul 10 2012 03:23 AM

In fact we have taken concrete measured steps to further reinforce the the ill-fated 17 point agreement with the Strasbourg proposal. And this was reiterated indirectly in a statement made by one of the envoys not so long ago. All the negotiations/discussions were in anticipation of a RECONCILIATION after which he mentioned that Dharamsala govt would close shop. Equating non violence = Non action is due to the negotiation team falling victim to Beijing’s foul play. We got nothing for all our efforts of good behavior – toned down protests; trying to reach out to Chinese brothers and praising motherland

A very astute and much needed (perhaps a bit delayed) critique of the pussification of the Tibetan race in the name of the “greater good”, “world peace”, “nirvanah” blah blah blah .... I say “F___K ALL THAT”. We want our Tibet back, not an Idea of a Tibet... plain and simple. I also believe in non-violence – the kind that Gandhi showed when he led struggle for India’s Independence. But the Tibetan leaders have confused non-violence with non-action.

Subject: White doves
Jul 09 2012 09:05 AM

A very moving piece of writing, which is sadly so true. So many lost years and Tibetans forced to surrender their identity, land and unity to the brainwashing and torture techniques used by China. Tibet has been held out by the West as a shining example of how to stand peacefully in exemplary Buddhist tradition, whilst reality on the ground has seen millions killed. Out natural inclination to defend ourselves eroded. We have become white doves in a shooting gallery. The big prize of Tibet won when the last dove is down. With the war of words continuing outside Tibet, as to hold with the Middle Way or stand for regaining Tibet as the independent country it once was, is a slap in the face for those who have given their lives. They fight for a Free Tibet, no argument. The west continues to voice it's support only of autonomy continues to be the agenda. But what real support has been gained. "We will continue to raise the issue of human rights with China", is the reguritation of their support. And what of the land the writer refers to, a place to build a home and bury the dead. In 2009 I saw a miniscule part od the destruction of Tibet, it is heartbreaking. Once the euphoriaof "going Home" which will one day come, it will not be the pleasurable experience referred to by Kalon Tripa in his recent Australian press release.. Uncovering the true extent of damage will be horrifying. How to remove the evil that lives in the Land of the Snows is the question that no one seems to have the answer to. If the frustration that is in the hearts of so many Tibetans boils over in a violent way, the snow of Kailash herself will boil red.
