Subject: grim situation in Tibet continues
Jun 24 2012 03:49 AM

The Kashag advised us against celebrating last losar. Their reasoning was understandable and acceptable. The situation was grim in Tibet. It was heart wrenching to say the least. The grim situation in Tibet, unfortunately, has not changed since last losar.

Therefore, Kalon Tripa, khewang, Prof., Dr. Lobsang Sangy’s reasoning to celebrate Kundun’s birthday is tenuous. At this point in time, there is no need to reinforce Tibetans’ love, respect, and devotion for His Holiness. The strength of the bond the Tibetan people share with Kundun is palpable. Nothing in this world can take out Kundun from Tibetans’ hearts.

However, when the state’s machinery makes its citizens pay respect and homage to their leader disregarding the bigger picture overshadowing our nation will make our nation look like China and North Korea, where people are forced to pay respect to Mao and Kim. Respect, by the way, should be earned, not commanded.

“We are not asking Tibetans to hold extravagant parties. On His Holiness’ birthday, we are calling on Tibetans to celebrate the vision of our leader and also the international honours bestowed on him, including the 2012 Templeton Prize.”

The last time I checked, His Holiness donated his award money to non-Tibetan entities. Kalon Tripa Prof. Dr. Lobsang Sangay should call on members of those entities to celebrate the 2012 Templeton Prize bestowed on His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Kalon Tripa should perhaps provide His Holiness with a list of organizations/areas related to the Tibetan people and the Tibetan cause that deserve his money more than outside entities.

Subject: Hostile Forces

I second Omze’s question. It would be helpful if Kalon Tripa defines hostile forces for the sake of clarity, for instance, who are they, in what form do they exist, and identify their activities that undermines our unity. These will help every patriotic Tibetan deal with the issue effectively. In the absence of any such clarity, such a vague speech by Kalon Tripa could sow suspicion among neighbors and within our community; we should leave this work to the communist Chinese agents. This could cause unnecessary disharmony in our community. Such a disharmony could affect our unity. Elected leaders should say things and do things that will safeguard our unity.

Would the Kalon Tripa be able to extend his meaning of hostile forces ? Also international awards are a wonderful and deserved accolade for His Holiness, but one must not forget The Dalai Lama is essentially the living embodiment of Chenrezig.Emphasis on worldly adornments from the west could be misinterpreted by some.
