New Tibetan literary website launched
By Email[Tuesday, July 31, 2012 02:40]
DHARAMSHALA, July 31: In what is being termed as a “significant addition” to Tibetan cyberspace, a new Tibetan language website www.Karkhung.com was launched Sunday.

Karkhung, which means “Skylight,” carries translations of essays and articles from English and Chinese languages into Tibetan.

According to Dhondup Tashi Rekjong, editor of the website, Karkhung aims at expanding the “range and capacity of literary efforts in Tibetan language by making a diverse range of writings in other languages available online for Tibetan language readers.”

Some of the pieces translated by Karkhung so far include an essay about self-immolation in Iran, a blog on Lhasa city by the award winner Tibetan writer, Woeser, articles related to online safety and security for Tibetans, and an open letter by a Tibetan cadre. The pieces are selected by an advisory committee of readers that consist of Tsering Shakya, Lauran Hartley, Tsering Wangmo Dhompa, Tenzin Dickyi, Tenzin Rigdol and Kathup Tsering.

Based on a report submitted by Dhondup Tashi Rekjong.
