DHARAMSHALA, October 24: His Holiness the Dalai Lama began a three-day teaching on Je Tsongkhapa's “The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment” (Lamrim Chenpo) at the request of Korean devotees yesterday in Dharamshala, north India.

Hundreds of devotees from Korea, US, Europe and India attended the teachings at the Tsug-la Khang Temple near the exile residence of the Tibetan spiritual leader.

Lamrim Chenpo is considered one of the most renowned works of spiritual practice and philosophy in the world's treasury of sacred literature. The work composed in 1402 by one of Tibet’s foremost spiritual adepts, Je Tsongkhapa (1357-1419), systematically and lucidly maps the path to enlightenment.

Giving insights into the Lamrim Chenpo, His Holiness the Dalai Lama said: "What distinguishes it as one of the principal texts of Mahayana Buddhism is its scope and clarity...the various stages of the path are presented so clearly and systematically that they can be easily understood and are inspiring to put into practice."

The ongoing teachings are from the sections on serenity (shiney) and insight (lhaktong) of the text.

Live webcast of the teachings is available on the website of the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in English, Mandarin, Tibetan, Korean and Russian languages

Following the teachings, the Dalai Lama is scheduled to visit Japan from the 30th of this month. His Holiness is expected to visit the areas worst hit by the devastating tsunami in March earlier this year.
