Tibetan singer Techung performs at a concert in Nepal
Kathmandu, July 8: The first ever concert of Tibetan singer and musician, Techung in Nepal was held at Hotel Shahenshah International in Kathmandu this evening. He sang various traditional and self-composed songs and the crowd of over 250 people very much applauded his performance.

He said, "we have very limited audience in our society for traditional Tibetan music, so we should try to reach out to the world. We should try to teach youngsters about our traditional music and keep them interested, I always try to do that and plan to establish such music school for that purpose".

Tsering Gyurmey and his Shambala Band also performed several songs and entertained the audience. Techung also performed various songs together with Shambala Band, Gangjong Band and Nimdol (Nima Dolma). Michael, the famous Tibetan comedian and singer entertained the audience with his jokes and songs in between other items. Other local Tibetan and Himalayan Region singers and artistes like Yolmo Dolma, Dendi Sherpa, Phuntsok 59, Ngawang Thubten, Nima Dolma, Sonam Lhamo and Gangjong Band also performed and entertained the audience. The JJI Exile Brothers Band was guest artist of the evening and performed two songs. Himgyap Tashi Lama, a local music video director/choreographer/dancer and his dance group performed a newly choreographed Bollywood style Tibetan dance number and enthralled the audience with a stunning new Tibetan item number, probably the first Bollywood style Tibetan item number in the Tibetan Diaspora society.

A Tibetan in the audience said, "This type of concert with Tibetan and artistes of ethnic Himalayan region people is very encouraging. We should hold more of such well coordinated concerts as our cultures are similar, we would be able to draw more audience, interact with them and it would benefit our Tibetan society".

The Himalayan Sherpa Culture Association organized the evening.
